In the beginning of Act II, Macbeth had a plan to kill Duncan in order to take over the throne. He figured it would be a good plan, however, after committing the assassination he started to have emotional problems and was not sure if he did the right thing. He then hears people while they are sleeping saying things such as "Macbeth has murdered sleep, and therefore Macbeth will sleep no more." Lady Macbeth then tries to tell him that he is acting like a coward and weak. He then says that he can not continue with the plan of taking the daggers back and smearing the guards with blood while they are still sleeping. Lady Macbeth then takes control and does the deed and says "My hands are as red as yours, but I would be ashamed if my heart were as pale and weak" showing how Macbeth is having a hard time with what he has done. He now has to deal with the consequences which seem to be too much to handle at the moment, which ultimately becomes Macbeth's internal conflict.
