The setting in the begining scenes of MacBeth are all very similar. They each portray a dark and gloomy scene with great amounts of thunder and lightning. The image of a sylvan area is depitcted often. This type of weather and scenary are used to create a mood where it is sullen and has a sense of doom. The opening line "When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain?" spoken by the first witch, is used to show the nefarious nature of the three witches when they are at the beach. In the third scene we see the 3 witches again. This time they are at a heath near Forres and again the weather is very gloomy. This dark weather that follows the three witches shows the negativity that surrounds the witches. It makes them seem evil and it shows them in a bad light. This weather that is with them paints a murky and somewhat spooky scene to help readers vizualize the evilness of the 3 witches.

Not only do you describe the tone well but you also made the class aware of the natural elements in the play which will continue to develop as the play progresses. ReplyDeleteFirst off, I like the picture. However, the name of this play is Macbeth and not MacBeth. You should re-read the title page. You just used what was said in class that day and did not really come up with your own thoughts seeing how you based it off of Mr. Mahoney's. Other than that it is good. Good job. Ps. Forensics is going to be awful.
