In the beginning of the story, Shakespeare imforms us that the setting is during the middle ages around the 11c. in Scotland. He then introduces the "Weird Sisters" who start the play with an eerie mood to it because of how Shakespeare portrays them as ugly and dark. They are together during a violent thunderstorm with pouring rain. That description gives the reader a perfect picture of a dark and gloomy mood. Shakespeare then shifts gears towards a battlefield focused around fighting and bloody scenes. The three witches then appear and bring a dark cloud with them that seems to follow them where they go. It them goes towards an execution of Thane of Cawdor, which were known and are still known to be dark and gloomy and sets the mood for the rest of the play as well. Overall, the atmosphere does not seem to be a good one and it may be foreshadowing how nothing but bad and dark things are to come as the reader progresses into the play.~Danielle Lavallee
